We’re fans of Makerspace and Hackspaces in general and being based in the south of England are very happy to see that as of the 1st of February Southampton Makerspace are to move to a new much larger and dedicated space.
The Southampton Hackspace started being discussed online in 2009 but took until 2013 to grow to become a large enough organisation to sustain its own space. After an attempt to set up as a charity they incorporated as a limited company So Make It Ltd. They set up in the corner of a members warehouse and slowly grew until the end of last year where they were big enough to look for their own space. One crowd funding campaign later and they have signed on a unit this month and are looking to have their opening on the first of February.
The new address is
Unit K6, Liners’ Industrial Estate,
Southampton SO15 3FQ
This estate is just north of Southampton city center and a relatively central if you live in Southampton. Now that they have their own space their first plan is to expand the number of key holders and hence the amount of time the space will be open will expand dramatically. They plan to also expand their events and courses starting with their grand opening on the 1st of February at 2pm.
If you are interested in the Space their website is here and they are always looking for new members.
