The Ergohacks Verdict
When Cass got an Echo Dot in her room she was interested to find out what it could do. She’d used the Echo for timers, news and for questions in the past but wanted more. I’m an avid audiobook and podcast listener and recalled that the Dot could read to her. A quick look through my library and I realised I had a copy of Enid Blyton’s “The Enchanted Wood”. Thirty seconds later after figuring out that I had to tell Alexa to Read the enchanted wood rather than play it and Kate Winslet’s dulcet tones filled the room.
Enid Blyton has her critics and while it’s true that her books can get a little repetitive the first time our six year old encountered them she found it perfect. It harkens back to a simpler time and gives children both responsibility and the ability to make their own decisions. The Enchanted Wood is just under 5 hours long and Cass made time in her schedule and managed to finish it in less than a week. This was quickly followed by it’s sequel – The Magic Faraway Tree and she’s currently working her way though the Folk of the Faraway Tree. The series ends with Up the Faraway Tree but that’s not available as an audiobook so she’ll have to read it herself.
For once the final word isn’t mine – it’s Cass’s : “It got a lot of magic and its just like you’re reading it its that good. I really like it. I would recommend it to other people. Children and adults.”
