The BBC’s iPlayer is a generally excellent way to access their content in the UK but unless you’re watching it closely you might have missed the update this week to both the Android and now the iOS apps.

TV can be broken down by category, such as Kids, Animals, Documentary and a new category – Audio Described has been added.  This category contains all the programs that have an additional narration soundtrack and are played with that soundtrack automatically turned on.  This is not new content – it’s always been available but it brings it together in one usable place.

The update also adds several bug fixes – most notably claiming to reduce buffering very significantly and increases the popular TV shows section to 40 shows from 20.

Available now on Android and iOS.
