As we posted last week the Apple rumor mill has been going crazy with rumors of new iPads, new iPad Mini’s, new iPhones and the mythical Apple TV and iWatch. Last month we finally got a new release of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and last night we had another set of announcements.
Apples new operating system was announced earlier this year but we got alot more information on Maverick. It has a number of improvements under the hood with improved battery life, better handling of multiple screens, better handling of RAM resources and better graphics handling. Also included is a new Map app, an iBook apps and new syncing in Safari. The iWorks office suite has also been updated with newer iPhoto, Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Mavericks will be available for download for free for all OSX users of Lion, Mountain lion or Snow Leopard today.
Apple announced updates to the 13 and 15″ Macbook Pro. First they are now to have retina displays with 4th generation Haswell CPUs, integrated Intel iris graphics and increased battery life up to 9 hours. 802.11ac wi-fi and Thunderbolt 2 are the main connectivity and it has a 128gb SSD. The price will start from $1299 for the i5 13″ and $1,999 for the i7 15″ and get more expensive as you increase the specs. They will be available from today.
The Mac Pro was previewed in June – it the real superuser system with higher specs than anything previously available from Apple. This is not a system for most of us but will make some people – particularly video editors – very happy. The Pro will start at $2999 and will be available from December. The base price will have a 3.7gHz Quad core Xeon, 12gb Ram, Dual FirePro D300’s and a 256GB SSD. It is to be made in the USA.
iPad ‘5’ Air
A new iPad was announced with a new name – the iPad Air. Its has a smaller bezel with the same size screen and its thinner at only 7.5mm thick, Its weight has been reduced to 1 pound or .45kg. It has the A7 64 bit chip from the iPhone 5s inside it as well as the M7 motion processor. Its wifi has been boosted with MIMI (which lets you connect twice). a 5 megapixel camera, dual mics and a 1080p facetime camera. Its available in wilver, white spage grey and black. The ipad 2 will still be available at $399 and the Mac air wills tart at $499 for the 16gb model increasing to. 1st November is the launch date in most places, specifically in the US and the UK, and there will be no pre-orders available.
The iPad mini is getting a retina screen and the cpu is being upgraded to the A7. The original iPad mini will still be available at $299 and the iPad Mini Retina will be available for $399.
